iceland airwaves ‘11 day two @ reykjavik, iceland (10/13/11)
you know it’s gonna be a good day when you come downstairs from your hostel and run into a surprise active child session. but things got a little frustrating when we accidently saw borko instead of reykjavik! and sóley (of iceland’s famous seabear) was extremely late to her set. as a result, we got to sneak in some folky pascal pinon (who’s lead also happens to do the vocals for samaris) which was pleasant. when sóley finally did come on, though, it was incredible and all tardiness was forgotten. amazing how soft, icelandic vocals can do that.
moved on to raised among wolves who managed to slap a huge ass smile on my face and warm my heart. ended the night with a once-in-a-lifetime performance by yoko ono plastic ono band. what a privilege. not gonna lie, her set was crazy weird with a lot of strange, vocal squawking, but there’s no denying the fact that she is an artistic force to be reckoned with, even at 78. we even got a special appearance by tune-yards toward the end of the set as well. lucky us!
